Bye Bye 2018

Time pass really fast, now 2018 coming to an end soon, major thing this year is changed a new job, good thing is that it is a better job so career-wise considered doing fine. Today also completed my appraisal, boss said gave me very good rating, well at least here if put in effort it is recognised unlike my previous company. Boss also trying to push me to become project manager... Anyway no harm trying but I still like doing technical work though, project management is a whole different beast which I tried a bit and didn't enjoy. Finish current project first then see how. Family also doing well except that one time wife got hospitalised due to low INR reading, baby doing well but getting too fat, must make her exercise more. Next year she turning 4, maybe can start to enrol her in kindergarten but I'm not overly concerned. Financial not so good in terms of investment, stocks losing money but good thing is that it is money that I don't need to touch so still not that b

Get Ginger Win Lucky Draw (中姜,中奖)

Image
A few days ago during lunch I ordered chicken rice and after the owner scooped the rice, saw a big piece of ginger, the stall owner wanted to remove it for me but I said it's ok, then another guy said aloud ä¸å§œ, similar to 中奖 which means winning a prize, we just laughed about it. Then yesterday I went for our company D&D, won two prizes, one prize is $30 CapitaLand vouchers. Then another one is a Sonos Play:1 speaker, retail price at Lazada is $269, not bad sia. But too bad the speaker quite complicated to use, end up selling it at Carousell for $150, it was quickly snapped up. Been quite some time since I won something, maybe I should go buy toto, who knows win top 3 group lol.

Merries Diapers

I think Merries should be the most expensive brand of diapers I have seen so far, but for the price, the quality is there. We recently switched from Drypers Drypantz because it was too small for her, she is wearing XXL but the Drypers XXL and Merries XXL different in size, Merries is actually a bit bigger so it fits much better. Actually it is also because my daughter is bigger and fatter so need a bigger diaper. I also find that she runs through a bit less diapers after using Merries, think it is because it absorbs better and don't leak, the Drypers one don't absorb that well and always leak. Overall Merries is more costly, buy at Lazada 78 pieces S$52+, Drypantz 112 pieces $38+, quite a big difference.

SP Group Update Recurring Credit Card

I recently replaced my credit and got a new expiry date and code, but card number is the same. My SP bill is paid via recurring credit card arrangement, and very strangely there is ZERO info on how to update my new credit card info at SP, even their website, FAQ, app, all never mention at all, wow. Anyway I wait for them to try to deduct, if fail then let them come to me, knn email nobody reply, call nobody answer, leave number nobody call back, already almost one week, wtf?

$4 Chicken Rice @ Jackson Square

Image
Cheap and good!

$3 Wanton Mee @ Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre

Image
This delicious plate of wanton mee only $3, cheap and good, hawker food is the best. My wife had a plate of economical rice one meat two veggies only $2.70. I think that this kind of real hawker centre is very precious and important to everyone, it offers cheap and good food to residents, it cannot disappear, can't imagine one day all these are gone and replaced by those fake social enterprises. Why is our government allowing fake social enterprises to operate I really have no idea, if they are out to make money as with any business, fine, just don't carry the name social enterprise.

Chef Kang’s $5 Michelin Star Wanton Noodle @ Jackson Square

Image
This morning went for smoke break, just happened that no queue so thought might as well have an early lunch and find out why people willing to queue so long for such a simple dish. After eating, I think the noodle, the char siew, the lard, the wanton, the soup, the chilli all very different from the normal wanton noodle. The char siew is the fatty type, well bbq and even a bit crispy and very fragrant. The noodle I think some special noodles, very thin but I still like the normal noodles. The lard no need to say, lard is always good. Then wanton is special, two big wantons, inside have quite a few ingredients, got prawn also, I think they also put some sort of crispy dried fish very small bits. Soup also nice, not the ajinomoto type. Chilli also good stuff, not spicy and have dried prawns. Overall $5 definitely worth it, long queue forget it, worth the star or not I don't know how they award so no comment, but the quality is way above the usual wanton noodles, worth trying. If

Replacement of POSB Everyday Card

Recently found that my card a bit faulty, sometimes cannot read when paying by Master or EZ-Link sometimes also cannot read. This blog post is a record of how I replace my card. 1. Requested for replacement of card using the digibank app on 27 Nov. 2. Received new card with same number but different expiry date and code on 30 Nov. 3. Managed to update Starhub recurring bill online. M1 and town council need to send form. SP no way to update, emailed them. 4. Transferred balance of EZ-Link to my new card on 01 Dec, did it at one of the TransitLink Ticket Office, less than 5 mins settled. Found the Reason Why My Blog Loads So Slow

It's because of the read more script, I think the author took down his site which hosted the script so my blog can't find the script and load until timeout. I have commented off the script, now should be much faster.

Logitech G304 and Targus AKB55 Update

Image
After using both for about a week, the G304 mouse is still amazing, well-designed and feels really comfortable and no problem so far. The material is also the durable type. It's worth every cent for the S$79 price tag. Even if you don't use it you should buy it for collection, yeah it's that good. As for the AKB55 keyboard, for S$39 it's not worth it, if S$10 then still ok. Never ever buy a keyboard because of the brand, which is my mistake, I thought Targus product cannot be too bad but I was so wrong. Some annoying problems: 1. Keyboard lag I don't know if it is because this keyboard simply sucks or if it is because Bluetooth cannot make it, there is always the intermittent lag, press and it doesn't respond and have to press again. My old Logitech K260 2.4GHz keyboard totally no lag at all. 2. Keyboard layout For the size, I can understand that they have to compromise but the layout is not good, small keyboard is good but this is too small so they real

DBS/POSB Credit Overseas Transaction Fees

Link. Last month I bought some games at Steam, the site shows total amount S$23.09, it is already in SGD. Then after that I noticed my credit was charged S$23.32, an extra S$0.23 which is about 1% more, not a big deal but curious so I checked with Steam support, they confirmed they only charged as per what I saw on their site which was S$23.09 and they advised me to check with my bank. So after checking with DBS, they told me Steam is an international site so the transaction used Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) and they gave me the link and indeed it shows a 1% fee for credit card. " 1% fee on the converted Singapore Dollar Amount using a VISA/MasterCard Credit Card for foreign currency transactions." For transactions at Amazon or any other international sites can understand, I choose to pay in USD or other currency, I have to pay some fee, it's fine, because I understand DBS need to convert the foreign currency to charge me in SGD so it's service rende

China Man Got Let Go

Today my boss suddenly asked me to speak in a private room, then told me the top management decided to let the guy go, I was quite surprised because it was so fast, only yesterday he asked for my opinion then today fire the guy, but nevertheless with his kind of standard it's just a matter of sooner or later. Now I feel a bit bad, maybe I should have just kept quiet but then I don't think it's just because what I told boss, his conduct all can see, even customers not quite happy with him. Then boss shared with me what they plan to do, one approach is for me to take over that guy's duties but at a higher level and he will get people to help me, naturally I declined because it's above my pay grade, that guy is manager level and I'm an analyst, doesn't make any sense for me to do more and not get paid more. Anyway for the sake of the big picture, that guy's duties even if I take over doesn't mean it will go smoothly because the scope is not small, ne

Received Confirmation Letter

End of this month I would have completed 3 months in my new job, I have also received my confirmation letter so starting from next month I will probably be able to take leave and MC, but no plan for leave, MC I don't bother unless really sick until cannot walk. Anyway these 3 months I never take any leave, only that one day when I had sudden abdominal pain but good thing my boss cover for me so no need to take any leave. So until now, still same, people all very nice even customers all very friendly and approachable, recently I even received a compliment from the customer, a bit strange for me because in my last job I don't get any compliment no matter how well I do, or how proactive, at most get a "thanks" and that's it, it's like do well is expected, don't do well is your fault, and there was hardly any team work, have the feeling of every man for himself, boss suck, colleagues, customers suck, environment suck. But whatever, it's over, super

Got a Refund for My Amazon Order

Early on I bought a new PC from Amazon, I think it is stated somewhere that if the amount that they collected for import tax is not fully utilised, they will refund to me,and indeed they did. So Amazon emailed me to update that they will refund $2.22, because Amazon pricing is in USD so it is $2.22 USD, not bad, feels like some sort of rebate lol.

China Woman Raised Ass and Long Farted

Today me, wife and baby went to the BBQ restaurant at Clementi Mall, a table next to us was a China couple, the woman was well-dressed, put on makeup and all, and her ass happened to be facing us. So while we were eating, I heard a pooooo sound, lasted for at least 3 seconds, then I realised it's the China woman because her right ass was raised, basically she raised her ass and farted and then act blur. My wife also heard the fart. How did this disgusting piece of shit get into SG, go restaurant and then just fart like nobody business, lucky we were about done if not really no appetite to continue.

Bought New Mouse (G304) and Keyboard (AKB55)

Image
Bought a Logitech G304 wireless mouse and a Targus AKB55 bluetooth keyboard. The mouse is awesome, I think it is better than my G603 because the shape feels just right whereas the G603 is a bit bigger. For weight, G304 feels lighter whereas the G603 is a bit heavier even with one battery. G304 is only one battery by the way. So now I will use the G603 at work and G304 for home use, the mouse I currently use for work is garbage and wired and sometimes the cursor goes nuts. G304 is $79. If I have to choose one between G603 or G304, I would easily choose the G304 and it is also cheaper. For the AKB55, I bought it purely because it is small and compact and only $39 for a Targus brand. Keyboard layout is weird, it has a function key, backspace key is labelled as delete and a bit smaller, enter key is also smaller but I suppose I'll get used to it. Other than the weird layout, everything else feels good, super slim and light, looks durable, flat keys for easy typing, good purchase

Received Wife's Hospital Bill

One day stay at NUH class C ward. Total charges: $1800.30 Government subsidy: -$807.85 Amount payable: $992.45 Since it is just one day, can only claim $450 from my Medisave. Then the Medishield Life cannot claim because there is a $1500 annual deductible that needs to be met before they will payout. So now still owe NUH $542.45 in cash.

Still Haven't Receive Wife's Hospital Bill

Last month she was warded at NUH, now almost one month haven't see her bill in mailbox. I wondering how much, but for sure no need to pay cash, think all paid by CPF. She was warded one night at C ward so don't think it can cost much.

Seems Like 500GB More Than Enough

Image
My new computer is using the Samsung 970 Evo 500GB as my one and only disk drive, so far after loading up with all my stuff, still left with about 355GB, way more than enough. By the way my Windows 10 Pro which I bought off eBay for 4.90 USD is still working fine, fully updated and working well.

Ichiban Sushi @ The Clementi Mall

Image
Personally I think this is my favourite Japanese restaurant, the cereal fried chicken is great and for $7.90 the serving is big, don't mind the picture I ate a few pieces then took picture. Then they have this new Tendon which is a bowl of rice with soya sauce and fried stuff, $13.90. I remember I ate Tendon at some other place one bowl $20+ and portion smaller than this.

UOB Overseas Property Loan for Thailand

Source But catch is must be condo and must be Bangkok or some selected areas, probably rural areas is out. Can borrow up to 70% though. Wonder if places like Chiang Mai or Phuket can or not, Bangkok air so polluted I cannot take it. Anyone use this loan before? Want to share your experience?

IKEA Food Still Good

Image
Still the usual crowd and lunch hour still as madly packed as ever so better to early morning or afternoon. Price still reasonable and food quality still there, but the mashed potato a bit too sticky.

Two adults for Saturday lunch is $60.95, pricing still alright, plenty of meat and fried food. I like to eat the meat with rice and the Korean fried glass noodles, super tasty, don't need any seasoning.

CoaguChek XS Meter Working Fine

Today wife went to do a blood test at NUH, INR was 1.3, then at the same time also checked using our meter, also 1.3, this means that the meter is still accurate, so I think previously why shot up so high is because we lost track. Before she was warded, last check was on 17 Sep and the value was 1.8, after that we checked at NUH A&E and it was 6+. I think safer is to check at least twice a month, if somehow meter doesn't work again then better go check at NUH or polyclinic. So now one thing for sure is that if reading is too high, for example 6+ then the meter will not be able to produce reading and may show QC or error 6. Today the cost for checking at NUH is $25, after subsidy is $18.75.

Something Wrong with Wife's CoaguChek XS Meter

Recently the device keep showing QC error, wasted quite a few test strips and still unable to get a reading, I think wasted like almost a bottle of the test strips, one bottle have 6 and cost $64.20 after GST. And that's how we lost track of her INR level. Should have bring her to NUH to check instead of waiting. Last Saturday when we went to NUH , I tried looking for the test strips at the Clinic A pharmacy but they don't sell, the pharmacist told me to try the one at the Medical Centre at level 3, good thing they sell so I bought two bottles. After that tried one and got error 6, I think it's because wife's INR was too high so the device can't read it and show error instead. By the way if you want to know more about the error codes you can see this link  for the user manual. I also found a link at HSA which says INR value  greater than 8 can cause error 6, but wife's reading was 6+ based on NUH A&E blood test but the meter shows error 6, very confusin

Wife Discharged from NUH

This morning went to see her at around 9+, she told me total transfused 4 packets of blood, then the doctor wanted to keep her until Monday but wife don't want, I also don't want. Then doctor wanted to arrange for an O&G check up, suspect her menses causing blood loss. So drag until almost 12pm, I told the nurse she have until 12:30pm to settle everything, once time up we walk out. Think she feel the urgency already quickly get ready the documents. Then also make wife sign an indemnity paper in case we turn around and say they never do their job, this is fine, we insisted on leaving so of course won't hold them responsible if anything happens. Now wondering how much the bill will be, based on what the NUH A&E told me, one packet of blood cost up to $1000, so 4 packets can cost up to $4000, didn't know blood worth so much money. https://www.hsa.gov.sg/content/hsa/en/Blood_Services/Transfusion_Medicine/Blood_Transfusion.html From the HSA link, seems like b

Wife Warded at NUH

Image
These few weeks she keeps complaining about feeling very tired, her face also very yellowish, then yesterday she told me to bring her to polyclinic. So this morning woke up early and decided to go NUH A&E instead, thinking that there is a chance that we will be turned away at the polyclinic since today is a Saturday; we did get turned away once or twice, staff said Saturday they only accept appointment, no walk-in. We took a taxi to NUH, reached at 9+, the A&E very empty so registered very fast, upfront have to pay $115. After the nurse examined her, she was quickly sent to a doctor, me and baby was told to wait outside. After a while, the doctor called me in, told me wife's blood level very low (3. something out of 11. something), and her INR level 6.1 or 6.7 which is very high, and she recommended sending wife to ward for blood transfusion. Wife of course not keen to stay in hospital, I also reluctant because doctor told me might need to stay until Monday, if like t

Day 39 at New Job

Managed to survive for 39 days, so far working on 3rd project, not because finish already but because I got transferred around, so this time hope I can stay on this project and not jump around, but good thing is get to learn new stuff from different business domains so it's quite interesting. But I heard I might be going to another project, I'll leave it to the company to decide, it doesn't bother me at all, I can take on just about any role, business analyst, project lead, development, testing, deployment, infrastructure, face nasty customer, whatever they need me to do I'll just do, after all I'm paid to solve their problems. So far I find this new company good, have this very Singaporean feel to it, colleagues all very friendly, don't see any office politics, location also superb, near my home, have hawker centre, have coffeeshop, want to go smoke also near, big desk, comfortable chair, way better than my previous job. Compared to my previous job,

Jakemy & Jackly JK-6088A 38 in 1 Screwdriver

Image
I happened to see this at Challenger last weekend, only S$12.90. This comes with an extension bar for difficult spots, and it's cheaper than buying online. I think it is a must to keep one box at home just in case, you never know when you need it and when the time comes and you don't have the right tool, it can be very frustrating. I learned this the hard way last week while trying to install the M.2 SSD on my new PC. This box looks like it has all the small screw heads that I can ever possibly use, there's even one for opening iPhone SIM card slot, and the material is Chrome Vanadium which is rust-resistant, and it is magnetic, and it comes with a nice box.

Logitech G603 Scrolling Issue Came Back, And Fixed Again

Previously I thought the scrolling issue was fixed, but yesterday it came back again, usual symptom is that in long pages when I scroll down all the way it will jerk up a bit sometimes, same for the other way. Seems like the following 3 steps didn't help at all, and my mouse settings on the G Hub keep on resetting by itself, even while watching movie when I pause to surf net the settings also suddenly gone. 1. Installed "Logitech G HUB". 2. Disabled "USB selective suspend setting". 3. Uninstalled "Logitech Gaming Software". So I did the following: 1. Uninstalled "Logitech G HUB". 2. Installed "Logitech Gaming Software". 3. Updated firmware via the "Logitech Gaming Software" to 8.6.28. 4. Enabled "USB selective suspend setting". By the way I'm using Windows 10 Pro 10.0.17134. Now looks like the scrolling is really fixed, keep my fingers crossed.

Final Charges for New PC

Previous post. I got the charges to my card for the PC and Windows 10 Pro. Total in SGD that I paid for the new PC is  S$2,031.78 . 01 Oct 2018 AMAZON.COM*MT3JD9HR1 AMZN.COM/BILL WA USD1435.73 S$2,024.82 Amazon conversion price was S$2,075.96, in this case I saved S$51.14. 05 Oct 2018 (This is for Windows 10 Pro) PAYPAL *ERVISPLAKU USD4.90 S$6.96 eBay conversion price by PayPal was S$6.76, in this case I paid extra $0.20. Seems like PayPal will take a cut, so for such situation is better to take their conversion price. By the way my Windows 10 Pro still works, updates and everything is working fine, only S$6.96 compared to the official S$399.

Logitech G603 Scrolling Fixed

Previous post. I logged a case with Logitech support and they got back to me with some troubleshooting steps, the following seems to have solved the scrolling problem. 1. Installed "Logitech G HUB". 2. Disabled "USB selective suspend setting". 3. Uninstalled "Logitech Gaming Software". The G Hub is a new software to replace the Gaming Software, it offers the same functionality with a new UI but I don't know if it really helped with the scrolling issue. Maybe disabling the selective suspend helped I don't know, or maybe just using Windows 10 helped lol, anyway glad that it feels normal again.

Finally Setup My Hades Canyon

Image
The package arrived on Thursday, one day earlier than expected. Amazon guarantee really power. To open the cover, need to use the hex key, it comes with the package. One spare M.2 screw I installed the RAM, quite straightforward. But I was unable to remove the screw from the standoff of the M.2 80mm slot, don't know why this one screw is super tight, so frustrating. Next day during lunch I went to buy those small screwdrivers for repairing spectacles but no use, the screw already quite stripped on closer look, think it was because of the red screwdriver I used. In the end managed to remove it using the plier I bought from IKEA but any plier with a flat tip should work, and good thing the NUC also comes with a spare M.2 screw. Only $1.90 The power plug is the USA type, but good thing is that almost any desktop computer power cord will work because it is the very common C13 plug, so I just reuse the one from my old desktop since
